Its design was driven by the need for a submersible device, which is lighter, more versatile, and easier to use in situations where standard equipment is inadequate. The use of single-eye goggles has become increasingly popular with military forces, because it reduces the problems caused by temporary night-blindness, and allows peripheral use of the operator's second eye. Capable of operating in depths of over 60 feet, using a single battery (works with AA or CR123), and incorporating headgear and a weapon mount as its standard accessories, the Mini-14 is capable of handling any task set before it. Precision ground lenses produce distortion free viewing, and the Mini-14's short length gives it a full 40-degree field of view.
