Night vision
technology is classified in 'Generations'. First generation night vision has been
around the longest, and is still very popular because it's the least expensive.
Second generation devices cost two or three times what first generation devices will, but
will far out-perform first generation. Third generation night vision features the
most recent developments that are in full production, and will give you excellent
distance, contrast, and resolution. Fourth generation is considerably more expensive
because its not yet produced in large quantities. Fourth generation does features
some appreciable improvements over third generation devices.
ATN produces a
variety of unique night vision devices, in gen 1 through gen 4 technology. Their
products include night vision goggles, binoculars, rifle scopes and monoculars, as well as
the popular ATN Day-Night Rifle Scope series. ITT, the largest US producer of
military night vision, offers a small selection of 3rd gen commercial goggles and
monoculars. Rigel Optics produces first gen goggles, binoculars, and monoculars
using Dipol housings. Night Optics USA also uses Dipol housings. They produces
1st gen through 3rd gen products in a wide selection of image tube options and
configurations.
Night vision
monoculars & spotting scopes provide single-eye viewing through a single image tube,
while night vision binoculars allow two-eye viewing. Binoculars are available in
either a dual-tube configuration with stereoscopic vision, or in a single tube
configuration with monovision (sometimes referred to as bi-oculars, and typically less
expensive). Night vision goggles are available in monocular, binocular, or bi-ocular
styles. Night vision rifle scopes are made for nocturnal shooting, with an aiming
reticle superimposed on the image. Day-night rifle scopes will allow you to shoot
your weapon in any environment without re-sighting your gun.
Night vision
accessories allow you to expand the versatility of your night vision devices, for improved
performance in specific applications. Magnification lenses let you see farther when
ambient light permits, camera adapters allow you to take night vision photographs with
your device, and IR illuminators provide additional lighting in extra-dark
conditions. Multi-use devices accept a number of accessories, giving you excellent
flexibility with your night vision. Versatile devices are grouped with popular
accessories in kits for reduced cost and added flexibility from our most popular products.
